This project was conducted as part of my master thesis at the BMW AG R&D driving simulation center. It seves as the basis for a scientific experiment with 60 participants and the subsequent statistical evaluation.

During my internship and subsequent Masters thesis with the BMW driving simulation team, I was tasked with exploring new methods to facilitate 3D visualization for urban environments. This topic in general includes a range of interesting questions, such as:

  • How can modern game envines such as the Unreal Engine benefit the visualization?

  • Is it promising to replicate real world environments proceduraly based on online databases?

  • How can realistic interanction with virtual pedestrians be achieved?

  • Does simulation validity benefit from more sophisticated 3D environments?
